Policy Development and Implementation
Turn your commitments into policies that actually work and help your team put them into practice.
Policy can be powerful. Done well, it creates clarity, consistency and accountability. Done poorly, it gathers dust or causes confusion. I work with organisations to develop policies and procedures that are not only compliant, but inclusive, accessible and usable.
Whether you need a new inclusion policy, a refresh of internal procedures, or support embedding existing frameworks into everyday work, I’ll help you create something clear, achievable and aligned with your values.
Okay, but what is Policy Development and Implementation?
Good question! Policy Development supports you to develop or update internal policies, procedures or frameworks through a disability-inclusive and access-focused lens. It is not just about what the document says, but whether people can understand it, use it and see themselves reflected in it.
I can support you to:
Write new policies from scratch
Update outdated or inconsistent policies
Align internal procedures with best practice and access standards
Create Easy Read or plain-language versions
Develop accessible implementation resources for staff
This work can stand alone or be paired with internal reviews, action planning or training.
You don’t need to know where to start, or what to do next, that’s what I’m here for.
What we can cover
Depending on your needs, I can support you to review or develop a series of different things within your organisation. I recognise the importance of staff involvement when developing policies that will affect them, and use my experience and knowledge from the union movement to ensure any changes are done with consensus to ensure a positive, trusting culture within your organisation. After all, ‘Nothing About Us, Without Us’, applies to staff with disability too.
-
Core policies that demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to access, inclusion and equity, and outline how these principles are applied in practice.
-
Clear guidelines to help managers and staff understand how to request, assess and implement adjustments. This includes links to supports like the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF).
-
Inclusive recruitment policies and practical onboarding procedures that support access from the very beginning.
-
Support for internal and external communication policies, ensuring access is built into how you share, write and publish content.
-
Many people don’t realise how policies may affect staff with disability, even if the policies don’t have anything to do with them. Because of this I can also review or co-develop any and all policies and procedure documents within your organisation. This can include documents relating to performance management, staff wellbeing, grievance processes or complaints. All reviews include a focus on access and inclusive practice.
