Accessible Hiring Reviews
One of the biggest barriers to inclusive employment is the first step - the hiring process. You can break the unemployment cycle by making it easier for people with disability to apply and get hired.
Did you know that 40% of people with disability who are able to work are unemployed. One reason for this is that hiring practices are often unintentionally exclusionary. From inaccessible job ads to unclear processes and unaddressed bias, candidates with disability are frequently locked out before they’ve had a fair chance, meaning you might be missing out on the person best for the job.
An Accessible Hiring Review identifies those barriers and gives you the tools to fix them - helping you build more inclusive, competitive, and fair recruitment processes that reflect your organisation’s values.
Okay, but what’s an Accessibility Hiring Review?
Good question! An Accessible Hiring Review is a targeted audit of your organisation’s recruitment, onboarding, and selection processes.
I look at how you advertise roles, how people apply, and what they experience once they’re hired, with a focus on identifying practical, real-world barriers and improvements.
It’s a great starting point if:
You want to improve recruitment outcomes for disabled applicants
You’ve received feedback but aren’t sure how to act on it
You’re hiring for new roles and want to get it right from the start
You’re working towards inclusive practice but haven’t reviewed your hiring systems yet
What I Review
Recruitment isn’t just about finding the best candidate — it’s also about removing the barriers that might stop the best candidate from ever applying. During your Accessible Hiring Review, I’ll take a close look at each stage of your recruitment and onboarding process. Here’s what we’ll explore together
-
We look at language, clarity, formatting, and how access and flexibility are communicated (or not). We also review where you're posting roles and whether the process supports diverse applicants.
-
From online form design to required attachments, I’ll assess how accessible and user-friendly your application systems are — including for screen reader users, neurodivergent applicants, and people applying via mobile.
-
I review how candidates are assessed, what criteria are used, and whether unconscious bias may be shaping decision-making. This includes interview structure, panel composition, and assessment tasks.
-
We'll examine welcome packs, onboarding documents, and first-day processes. The focus is on making sure your new hires feel supported, informed, and included - not overwhelmed or othered.
-
I’ll also highlight what you’re doing right, and where you're already leading. A good review isn’t just about pointing out problems - it's about recognising strengths too.
What I offer
Every hiring review includes:
A planning session to understand your structure and recruitment needs
Review of job ads, application processes, and onboarding materials
Recommendations tailored to your context and goals
Optional check-in or team debrief to go through the findings
You’ll get clear, actionable advice with practical examples, not just vague HR theory.
