Accessibility Audits

Make your digital, physical and organisational spaces more accessible - starting with a clear, practical review.

Whether youโ€™re beginning your accessibility journey, or looking to improve processes currently in place, an Accessibility Audit is the best place to start.

I offer plain language, progress-oriented reviews that focus on whatโ€™s working, whatโ€™s not, and what to do next, while avoiding overly complicated jargon , and complaince only checklists.

Accessibility Audits are non-accreddited reviews that embed lived experience, human rights and best practice to support your organisation to meet legal and ethical requirements and best support everyone in your community.

These audits are designed to be useful, flexible, and respectful of your employeeโ€™s time. It recognises that not every access adjustment is possible for every organisation, and works with you to identify the best steps for your situation.

Okay, but whatโ€™s an Accessibility Audit?

Good question! Accessibility Audits can refer to a few different things, depending on who youโ€™re talking to and what youโ€™re talking about.

When I talk about Accessibility Audits Iโ€™m referring to a review of your organisationโ€™s systems, spaces or communications to identify barriers for disabled people and provide recommendations for improvement.

Unlike accredited compliance-based audits, my audits focus on usability, clarity, and real-world access from a lived experience lens. It aligns with best practice and both national and international frameworks like the UNCRPD, Disability Discrimination Act and more.

You donโ€™t need to know where to start, or what to do next, thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m here for.

 Types of Audits

You can choose to focus on one area, multiple areas, or a mix and match based on your needs. This guide is more just to help you understand what can be included

  • Covers websites, online forms, PDFs, learning platforms, and communications. I check layout, alt text, readability, screen reader compatibility, plain language use, and basic usability across devices.

  • Covers spaces like offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, and public venues. I consider entry, layout, signage, lighting, sensory access, and gender-safe facilities (e.g. unisex, accessible bathrooms).

  • Covers internal and public-facing communications โ€“ like posters, reports, templates and signage. I assess for formatting, alt text, readability, alternate formats, and cultural inclusion.

  • Looks at internal tools (e.g. onboarding, HR systems, surveys, rostering) and how easy they are for disabled staff or volunteers to navigate. Also considers interpersonal access (e.g. staff attitudes, sign language needs, assumptions).

  • Review event design, venues, run sheets, registration processes, comms and attendee support.
Covers physical layout, access to interpreters or quiet rooms, inclusive MC/facilitation, sensory access, and participant materials.
